This New Year was the best for Dylan Summers and his dog Athena. They were finally reunited after a long time. Almost ten months ago, Athena had gone missing while she was still recovering from surgery. Dylan did everything he could to search for his pup, but soon he began to lose hope.
He considered adopting another dog in December. But luckily for him and Athena, they crossed paths again on New Year.
In February 2020, Athena went missing as she was in the middle of recovering from a major surgery. Her legs had to be amputated after she was hit by a car. She was in the yard when she just suddenly vanished. Dylan was afraid that someone might have stolen her, but he does not have any proof of that.
He started looking for her and did whatever he could to find her. He even posted information about his dog online. But unfortunately, after ten months of searching, Dylan decided to move on and adopt another dog in need. As he looked for a new companion, he instead met a familiar face.
While Dylan was at Gateway Pet Guardians, he saw a photo of Athena once again. This time she was called “Miss-A-Toe.” Athena came to be there after she was rescued from a property with a lot of dogs.
Unlike the other rescued dogs, Athena was healthy and spayed. Rescuers speculated that there was more to her story, and they were proven right after Dylan came and saw her.
Then, the director of Gateway Pet Guardians, Alisha Vianello, received a voicemail on the eve of December 30. In the voicemail, they said that the dog she was fostering, “Miss-A-Toe,” was Dylan’s dog. She called back, stating how happy she was to find out that “Miss-A-Toe’s” owner found her.
On New Year’s Day, Dylan went to the foster home to reunite with his dog. It was a beautiful reunion, and she is now settling in her home as if she never went away.
