Here’s a fun fact I bet you don’t know about bananas… they are one of the two most popular fruits in the world!

(They and tomatoes are neck and neck for that title.)

And it’s no wonder bananas are so popular. You can add them to your breakfast, use them for health shakes, add them to desserts, and in some countries, they even have fried bananas as an afternoon snack.

But for those of us who live with dogs, a frequently asked question is…

Can Dogs Eat Bananas?

And the short answer to that question is yes!

As with most food, dogs can eat bananas as long as it is fed in moderation.

Your dogs will not only enjoy devouring bananas, but they also get great health benefits from doing so. Bananas are a great source of potassium, Vitamin C, manganese, Vitamin B6, biotin, fiber, and copper. Additionally, these fruits are also low in sodium and cholesterol.

However, as we said, moderation is key to feeding your dogs bananas. Despite their many health benefits, bananas also have high sugar content and dogs should only eat them as a treat.

Also, do not feed your dogs the banana peel. And if you are giving your dogs bananas, make sure to slice them into smaller pieces. This is because bananas are difficult to digest and can cause a blockage if consumed in large pieces.

If this is your first time feeding your dogs bananas, be sure to consult with your veterinarian first to see if your dog has any existing food allergies.

For those dogs who have pre-existing medical conditions such as sensitive stomachs, and those who are on a diet, it is best to speak with your vet first too.

Keep in mind that not all dogs like bananas. Some love them while others do not. So give your dog small portions at first to see if they will like it.

As long as bananas are just given as a snack (and they are not allergic), there’s no other reason why you cannot feed them to your favorite dogs!
