A poor dog was suffering from a respiratory infection. And because of that, she had to be put down. The poor dog was also malnourished and was covered in fleas and was having a difficult time standing on her own.
The poor dog was named Bella. Bella was a female Staffordshire bull terrier cross. Her owner was charged with ill-treating of her dog.
The SPCA found out last year that the poor dog was in an unhealthy condition as her body was emaciated. The vets found out that the poor dog was suffering from a respiratory infection.
And though the poor dog was suffering and having a hard time breathing, her owner did not give a care about it. Her owner did not even try to get her treated.
Her respiratory illness was so bad that she was coughing blood and her lungs made an abnormal sound. The poor dog was so thin and weak and had a hard time standing on her own. And to make matters worse, she was covered in fleas.
It was confirmed by another vet that she was malnourished beyond belief. The same vet also said that Bella was dehydrated and her teeth were covered in tartar. The poor dog’s nails were also overgrown. Bella also had a grade 4 murmur on her heart. This just shows how untreated the poor dog was.
Both vets said that the poor dog was suffering as she was not treated well by her owner. According to her necropsy, she was also suffering from Cushing’s disease and had significant skeletal muscle wasting. The poor dog also had a pneumonia
Her owner Melissa Mclntyre was sentenced to 6 months’ supervision by the Auckland District Court. She was also banned from owning dogs in the next five years and had to pay $1207 to the SPCA.
In her defence, she said that she noticed her dog lost a lot of weight six months earlier. She also said that she gave her more food and de-wormed her. Melissa said that she wanted to take her poor dog to the vet, but she could not afford it. During the investigation, she had to surrender her ownership of Bella.
