More than six years ago, in June 2014, Debbie Vazquez lost one of her dogs, King. She let her three dogs out to relieve themselves like she usually does. But when it was time to come in, only two of her dogs went home, Rocky and Cookie.
There were no signs of King. Debbie searched for months; she did everything like hanging fliers and visiting local shelters and veterinary hospitals. Sadly, even with all that effort, they did not find King. Not until six years and four months later.
On October 25, Debbie was celebrating her birthday when suddenly she received a voicemail. She assumed that it would just be a greeting from a friend, but to her surprise, it was something much, much better. It was her dog who had been missing for more than six years.
Not only was her dog well, but he was more than a thousand miles away from his family. He was at the Humane Society of Broward County (HSBC) in Ft Lauderdale, Florida.
For Debbie, this is more than just a gift; this is a miracle. Only two weeks before her birthday, one of her dogs, Cookie, had to be put down because of cancer.
Without wasting too much time, Debbie and her daughter, Danae, drove to Florida with their dog Rocky in tow.
How King ended up on the HSBC, you wonder? On October 25, a woman went to the HSBC to surrender her dog. She told them that she was ill and could no longer take care of the dog. She also said to the staff that she got the Chihuahua mix six months ago from his previous owner.
As per their policy, the HSBC scanned the dog if he is microchipped, and surprisingly he is. They contacted the microchip company to trace the identification number. They soon found out that he is named King and was reported missing in Texas six years ago.
When Debbie and her daughter arrived, they were greeted by reporters who wanted to see her, and her dog, who was missing for six years, reunited. The humane society booked a hotel overnight for the family for them to prepare for their trip back to Texas.
Unfortunately, it was delayed for a few hours due to Hurricane Zeta. But even so, this is such a touching reunion. Debbie received a miracle for her birthday this year.
